A study on English subtitle translation for Chinese cultural documentaries from the perspective of Eco-translatology—taking China Bouquet as an example
生态翻译学视域下中国文化纪录片英语字幕翻译研究——以《万象中国》为例

摘要

作为跨文化传播的重要载体，文化纪录片以独特的语言魅力向世界讲述了具有中国地域特色的文化。文化纪录片的字幕翻译也因此承担起了传递文化内涵、塑造文化形象的责任。生态翻译学理论作为翻译领域一种新的研究范式，为翻译界带来了新的生机。本选题基于生态翻译视域，选取《万象中国》中的英文字幕，从语言、文化、交际三个维度出发分析探究文化纪录片的字幕英译，探讨如何改进中国文化系列纪录片英语字幕的翻译质量，向国际友人展现中国文化的独特魅力与博大精深，更好地向世界传播中国文化。

Abstract

As an important medium for cross-cultural communication, cultural documentaries convey regionally distinctive Chinese culture to the world through their unique linguistic charm. Consequently, subtitle translation for cultural documentaries bears the responsibility of transmitting cultural connotations and shaping cultural images. The theory of eco-translatology, as a new research paradigm in the field of translation studies, has injected fresh vitality into the discipline. Based on the perspective of eco-translatology, this study selects English subtitles from China Bouquet and analyzes the subtitle translation of cultural documentaries from three dimensions—linguistic, cultural, and communicative. It explores ways to improve the translation quality of English subtitles in Chinese cultural documentary series, aiming to showcase the unique charm and erudition of Chinese culture to international audiences and to better disseminate Chinese culture to the world.
