On errors in English translation of public signs in Ceramic Art Avenue of Jingdezhen
景德镇陶溪川公示语英译指瑕

摘要

景德镇国家陶瓷文化传承创新试验区的建立，对景德镇外宣翻译提出了高要求，其中公示语的英译作为展示景德镇国际形象的窗口尤为重要。本文以景德镇著名陶瓷文化旅游景点陶溪川的公示语英译为研究个案，探讨了公示语英译中存在的译名不统一、滥用音译、用词不准确和句式欠规范四大瑕疵，针对具体案例提出了恰当的译文，并从译者、制作方和监管部门三方面提出了改进公示语英译的建议。

Abstract

The establishment of Jingdezhen National Ceramic Culture Inheritance and Innovation Pilot Zone poses great requirements for the translation of Jingdezhen ceramic culture for international communication, among which the English translation of public signs as a window of showing international image of Jingdezhen is of great importance. Taking the English translation of public signs in Ceramic Art Avenue, a famous ceramic culture scenic spot, as a case study, this paper discusses its four kinds of errors including inconsistent translation, abuse of transliteration, improper word choice and inappropriate syntactic structure, provides correct translations for given public signs and puts forward some suggestions on improving the English translation of public signs from the aspects of translators, makers and supervising departments.
